Books and visual aids

The library has at  disposal books that are adjusted to the blind and visually impaired people, i.e. books written in Braille, audio-books and some titles in regular print – including essays and brochures about disability and things that are related.

Audio-books are recorded in different formats, like cassettes (2 and 4-chanelled), CD and mp3. Due to technological development cassettes are not so much in use like they just to be, these days we are using other modern formats such as Daisy – which is very popular in the world and hopefully it will be available in our country soon.
Book fund of the library is consisted of different titles from areas of fiction and scientific literature. Fiction is accommodating books from folk, classic-world and other literatures. On the other hand scientific literature is covering different titles from areas like – philology, sociology, medicine, religion, music, psychology, sport, music etc.

Aids and visually teaching tools

In general there are two types of aids for blind and visually impaired people:

1.    OPTICAL AIDS (TOOLS)
2.    TECHNICAL (typhlology) AIDS

Optical or visual tools are:

  • eye glasses – spectacles  (frames for the glasses, glass wares)
  • fit contact lenses
  • magnifiers (regular and digital)
  •

Technical aids includes materials like:

  • Braille’s watch
  • White Cain
  • Braille typewriter
  • Reproducer, CD, mp3 and Daisy players
  •

Among these two groups we should also mention the third one or information -technological or IT aids. This is special group of tools that are developed to help in communication. This group includes aids like: voice generators, programs for scanning, communicators, readers, specialised keyboards and computer mousses.
